About

Yingting Gao (she/her) is a Ph.D. student in Human-Centered Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology. Her research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction, sustainable materials, and biodesign. She investigates how the distinctive properties of biomaterials can be translated into interactive experiences and participatory ecological practices. Through material-driven design, she combines material exploration, prototyping, and community-based studies to understand how people make, use, and live with responsive and growing materials. She is also interested in developing digitally supported tools that make biomaterial knowledge more accessible and enable broader participation in biofabrication.

At Georgia Tech, she has conducted research with Prof. HyunJoo Oh in the CoDe Craft Group and Prof. Josiah Hester in the Ka Moamoa Lab. She was also selected as an NSF SUSMED Fellow. Before joining Georgia Tech, she received an M.F.A. in Information Art & Design from Tsinghua University and a B.Eng. in Metallurgical Engineering from Central South University. Her work has been presented at ACM CHI, TEI, and UIST, contributing to ongoing conversations around sustainable HCI, sustainable practices, and new ways of thinking about human-material relationships.
